The Ian Fleming International Airport in Ocho Rios, Jamaica (OCJ) is just minutes from a collection of Sandals and Beaches resorts. American Airlines has launched new non-stop air service from Miami to Ocho Rios, the first-ever U.S. commercial flight service. And it has appropriately dubbed the intimate, 76-passenger, private-jet-like flight AA4007.
The area has a storied connection to Ian Fleming, the British author best known for creating the character James Bond. Fleming bought property there in the 1940’s, and built a home there which he called “Goldeneye,” where he wrote many of the spy-themed novels.
The lush surroundings and tropical atmosphere of Jamaica, particularly Ocho Rios, provided Fleming with inspiration for the exotic locales featured in his Bond novels. Elements of Jamaican culture and landscapes also featured in his writing.
Two of the blockbuster films also had scenes in Jamaica, including the final Bond film in the Daniel Craig series of films in the franchise.
